The Adventures of Connal The House Plant – Episode I

When Connell left home

In a small town, there was a local flower shop where a little green house plant lived with his friends. This little plant was called Connal.

Connal loved his flower shop and his friends but he was always curious about what was outside. Not just outside the shop window that he looked out of every day, but beyond that. He wanted to know what he couldn’t see.

The time came when he had to tell his flower shop friends that he had decided to leave. They were all very surprised but they were excited for him, none the less. The succulents thought that he was very brave because they would always be too scared to leave the shop themselves. The roses predicted that he would never come back after seeing how exciting the rest of the world is. The daisies told him not to be sad because he would be having too much fun to miss them. But the wise old Bonsai quietly approached Connal to tell him about the time he visited the outside world.

“You’re going to have the most amazing time, but it’s not going to be easy. People will give you so much advice but you’ll never really know until you try things for yourself. They will also tell you that you should feel excited and happy because you’ll be doing so many amazing things. The truth is, sometimes you’ll wake up lonely and wonder why you ever left home and that’s OK. Don’t let anyone tell you how you should be feeling because this is your story and no one else’s.“

Connal didn’t really understand what the Bonsai meant, but he knew that this advice might be important to remember one day. Connal said his goodbyes to everyone in the shop and made his way outside. He needed to catch a bus to the train where he would travel for a day to go much further than any of the flower shop plants had ever gone before, even the wise old bonsai.

Connal finally arrived! When he got off the train he looked around at the strange city. There were so many buildings and they were so high. There was traffic as far as the eye could see but no plants anywhere. Connal got a bit nervous because he had no idea where to go or who to ask for help. As luck would have it, across the busy street was an art gallery with lots of colourful pot plants to decorate it. The colourful plants kindly offered Connal a shelf inside and he was very much relieved that he would have a safe place to photosynthesise.

Connal slept peacefully that night and dreamed of all the fascinating plants he might meet and the beautiful places he might go. Little did he know that his adventures had barely begun. Soon he would discover how incredible but also how cruel this new city could be. Such adventures awaited this little green plant and who would have guessed that tomorrow he would meet three of the most famous people in the world.
